Two States Fiercely Protecting American Gun Rights

Officials in Louisiana and Georgia find themselves at the eye of an anti-Second Amendment storm but are standing their ground in a fierce defense of American gun rights.

In the wake of the school and church shootings that rocked the nation, anti-gun opportunists have attempted the leverage the loss of life and strip good, hardworking people of the rights. Elected officials in Louisiana and a Georgia judge have stopped Second Amendment encroachments in their tracks.

Louisiana Stands Against Big Banks

Following the Parkland school slayings in Florida, Citigroup and Bank of America bowed to left-wing pressure to punish individuals and companies engaged in legal gun ownership.

The pair of big lenders announced they would not work with retailers unless they implemented heightened firearm restriction above what state and federal laws required. According to reports, Citibank went as far as to craft its own gun control regulations that demand companies ban the sale of “high capacity” magazines. The unelected officials at Citigroup also required retailers to end the sale of hunting rifles to anyone under 21 years old. Under current law, adults between 18-20 years old can purchase long rifles. Only citizens 21 and older can own or operate fully automatic weapons.

In April, Bank of America reportedly adopted a policy that their clients and customers cannot include firearms companies “who make military-style firearms for civilians.” Bank of America adopted the liberal-leaning definition that does not distinguish between semi-automatic civilian firearms and fully automatic military weapons.

The difference is that semi-auto firearms require the user to pull the trigger each time a round is fired, similar to a revolver. True military weapons can discharge the entire magazine by pulling and holding the trigger. Fortunately for Americans who value the principles in the U.S. Constitution, these big banks are discovering they do not make law.

According to a reports, Louisiana Attorney General Jeff Landry and the state’s Bond Commission denied $600 million to Citibank and Bank of America in response to the corporations’ attempt to regulate gun sales outside the law. State officials view the arbitrary restrictions imposed by the unelected lenders as a punitive measure that flies in the face of everyday Americans’ right to bear arms.

Louisiana press secretary Ruth Wisher reportedly said that the government officials have been working diligently on a response to the attempt by large corporations to effectively create gun regulations outside Congress “for some time.” Denying Citigroup and Bank of America access to $600 million in taxpayer revenue is a first step in reining in corporate bullying. The 7-6 vote to block the outfits stands as a win for gun rights.

“If you have zero respect for the U.S. Constitution, then you don’t need to do business with the state of Louisiana,” Republican Sen. John N. Kennedy reportedly said.

Louisiana also advanced the common-sense approach to self-defense following a rash of church shootings. The state recently dropped its additional 8-hour tactical training requirement for conceal carry permit holders to bring firearms into houses of worship.

“That’s too laborious to put 8-hour tactic shooting because that’s not what it is anyway. It’s a familiarization with your weapon,” Louisiana criminologist Wayne Nissen reportedly said.

Many recall the tragic killings in the Sutherland Springs, Texas, church massacre that was halted by a parishioner finally retrieving a firearm from his truck. Many Second Amendment advocates agree that armed self-defense remains the best deterrent. President Trump has routinely stated that returning fire remains among the best methods to stop such murderers.

Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards signed off on removing such restrictions in late May. The new rule went into effect Aug. 1.

Georgia Judge Stands her Ground against Academics

While citizens have watched the disgraceful attempts by liberal California courts to undermine the president’s policies to keep Americans safe, one Georgia judge stopped a left-wing incursion in its tracks.

Superior Court Judge Kimberly Esmond Adams reportedly denied an injunction request made by six liberal Georgia professors to override a state law that allow conceal carry on certain areas of college campuses. In her opinion, the judge states “because the State has not waived sovereign immunity, and, to the extent Plaintiffs claims could be sustained against Defendants in their individual capacities, official immunity would bar such claims.”

The hotly debated law that allows citizens with conceal carry permits to possess legal firearms on campuses was signed into law by Gov. Nathan Deal based on the increased need for self-defense.

At a time when illegal gun violence plagues places once considered safe, the Second Amendment has never been more vital.
